The Adamawa Primary Health Care Development Agency (ADPHCDA) has commenced a second round vaccination of 1.2 million children against polio virus in the state.
The Deputy Governor of the state, Prof. Kaletapwa Farauta, who made this known during the commencement of the exercise in Girei Local Government Area (LGA) of the state on Friday, disclosed that it had vaccinated 1,304,713, which is more than the targeted population in the first round.
She, therefore, urged parents and caregivers to ensure that their children (0-59 months) are available for the exercise.
Lafiya360 reports that while stressing that the exercise is meant to eradicate Polio Virus among children and reduce childhood diseases, she added that the immunization would raise the immunity of the children, and their well-being.
Dr Suleiman Bashir, the Chairman of ADPHCDA, while commending the collaboration between the state government and development partners, especially the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) and the World Health Organization (WHO), disclosed that the state had received 1.5 doses of novel oral poliomyelitis (nOPV2) vaccine for the two-day exercise in the state.
In his remarks, the District Head of Girei, Dr Ahmed Mustapha, assured of its support towards ensuring a successful exercise in the area and state.
