Residents of Trademore Estate, which is along the Lugbe-Airport axis, have recounted and lamented their loss, as the flood left wanton devastation in its trail.
Lafiya360 reports that the torrential downpour began around 8am. The rain fell persistently for hours, catching the resident of the estate off guard.
Also, the huge volume of water from the rain overwhelmed drainage systems, leading to the heavy flooding which destroyed properties worth hundreds of millions of Naira. The extent of the damage is still being evaluated as of the time of this report.
The Director-General of the FCT Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), Dr. Abbas Idris, who confirmed this in a statement on Friday, disclosed that four persons were rescued and were in stable condition.
He stated that the floods were caused by encroachments on laid down water channel.
He, therefore, appealed to residents who have breached this boundaries and built their houses on the water channels to relocate.
Dr. Idris stated that the collaborative efforts of government agencies have reduced the effects of the flood.
Lafiya360 also reports that Trademore Estate has suffered the devastating effects of flooding over the years, with lives and properties lost.
Since the tragedy began, National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), Fire Service, FCT FEMA, Red Cross and Federal Ministry of Environment-Flood Department, have been responding to the situation.
