In a harmonious fusion of melody and meaning, the Ferdinard Effah Music Heritage Foundation (FEMHF) embarked on an advocacy visit to the IKE Foundation for Autism (IFA) day care center, in Abuja on Friday, aimed at promoting awareness and acceptance for children and families affected by autism.
The mission was clear: to spread love and charity as the foundation believes that these values can unlock the hidden potential within autistic children, paving their way to becoming integral contributors to our society’s success stories. The day was marked by a facility tour of the IFA day care center and the presentation of heartfelt gifts to each child by FEMHF.
One of the highlights was a captivating musical performance by Ferdinand, an autistic child the FEMHF Foundation is named after. He and his band delighted parents, children, and visitors alike with their enchanting tunes, creating an atmosphere of unity and hope.
Ferdinand, whose musical talents took center stage, left a powerful impression on the audience, showcasing that individuals with Autism possess extraordinary abilities when given the right opportunities and support. As cameras remained unused out of respect for the children’s privacy, the melodies that filled the air painted a vivid picture of love, acceptance, and the potential that resides in every child.
Stanley Effah, President, and Trustee of FEMHF, emphasised the need for a fresh perspective in the Autism awareness and acceptance campaign. He called for partnership and collaboration among stakeholders to bring about a change of heart and style in promoting understanding and support for Autism.
“We are happy to be here today as a foundation visiting another foundation who shares the same objective with us, even if our windows to that same objective are completely different. IKE Foundation’s partnership with FEMHF will undoubtedly help us achieve the awareness and acceptance goals we dream of in Nigeria,” Effah said.
At the core of FEMHF’s evolving awareness campaign are two significant channels: FERDY’s band and the newly introduced Autism Voice TV. These platforms are poised to revolutionise the landscape of Autism awareness and acceptance in Nigeria. However, Effah emphasised the importance of collective support in realising this vision.
“We need your support as stakeholders,” he urged, highlighting the pivotal role that every member of society can play in fostering a more inclusive and accepting environment for individuals with Autism.
The sentiment was echoed by FEMHF’s Music Therapist, Majek Ebenezer, who pointed out that many families with autistic children grapple with self-worth and esteem. “We have discovered that most families with autistic children struggle with self-worth and esteem. It is important they take pride in them,” Ebenezer affirmed. He added that at FEMHF, Ferdinand’s inspirational journey has become an integral part of their identity, emphasising that there is no shame in being different.
The Coordinator of IFA, Chigozie Idoko expressed her heartfelt appreciation for the visit. She noted that this marked the first time an Autism foundation had visited the IFA center. The visit opened new avenues for collaboration between the two organisations, beyond formal settings, to explore opportunities for enhancing self-esteem, integrity, and community service among autistic individuals.
FEMHF commended the high standards of the IFA facilities, environment, and staff during their tour. The foundation’s visit breathed new life into the world of Autism awareness and acceptance, setting the stage for a more inclusive and harmonious society that embraces every unique note of its diverse composition.
As the event drew to a close, the echoes of music and the spirit of unity lingered, reminding all in attendance that when love and acceptance take the stage, the music of understanding can touch hearts and transform lives.
