The Presidency has confirmed the appointment of Dr. Temitope Ilori as the new Director-General of the National Agency for the Control of AIDS (NACA), effective from 22 February 2024.
This was made known through press statement by the agency’s Head of Public Relations and Protocol, Toyin Aderibigbe on Thursday.
Taking the baton from Dr Gambo Aliyu, in leading the charge towards achieving HIV/AIDS epidemic control in Nigeria by 2030, Dr. Ilori will serve an initial term of four years.
Background and Expertise
A seasoned academic and medical professional, Dr. Ilori brings a wealth of experience to her new role prior to which she was a Senior Lecturer in Community Medicine at the University of Ibadan and a Consultant Family Physician at the University College Hospital, Ibadan.
Her academic journey, which began with an MBBS degree from the University of Ibadan, has been marked by excellence, including being honoured as the best graduating Fellow of the Faculty of Family Medicine by the West African College of Physicians in April 2012.
Dr. Ilori’s expertise extends beyond medicine into nutrition and dietetics, holding both BSc and MSc degrees from the University of Ibadan. She is also a PhD Fellow at the University of Witwatersrand’s Department of Family Medicine and Primary Care, with her research funded by the Consortium for Advanced Research Training in Africa (CARTA).
Her research interests cover a broad spectrum, including Primary Care, Immunization, Public Health Nutrition, Non-Communicable Diseases, and Women’s and Child’s Health, leading to over 30 publications in peer-reviewed scientific journals.
