The HIV Trust Fund of Nigeria (HTFN) is making significant strides in its mission to raise N10 billion for the National HIV/AIDS response, with a key focus on Preventing Mother to Child Transmission (PMTCT). HTFN recently acknowledged the invaluable support of corporate organizations and individuals who are dedicated to combating the spread of HIV/AIDS.
The HTFN is a non-governmental organization committed to raising funds and resources to combat the spread of HIV/AIDS in Nigeria. With a primary focus on Preventing Mother to Child Transmission (PMTCT), HTFN aims to mobilize support from corporate organizations, individuals, and stakeholders to drive impactful initiatives in the fight against HIV. Through transparent financial stewardship and unwavering accountability, HTFN strives to create a sustainable impact in reducing the prevalence of HIV in the country.
At a recent ceremony held in Lagos, HTFN recognized and honored exemplary advocates for their relentless commitment to the cause. Among the esteemed honorees were Ocean Lord Limited, represented by their Administrative Manager, Mr. Jerry Adebiyi; Eko Electricity Distribution Company (EKEDC), represented by Nnenna Nwobodo, Head of Community Relations/CSR/Corporate Communications; and Chief Edobor Ozakpolor, who made a personal donation to underscore the importance of individual contributions to this vital cause.
Additionally, HTFN Tribe members Ms. Kosisochi Ozoemene, Wonu Jegede, and Mokut Utuk were celebrated for their remarkable dedication to the cause. These three recent graduates from Atlantic Hall Secondary School Epe mobilized their community, raising an impressive N520,000 to support HTFN’s objectives.
Dr. Jekwu Ozoemene, CEO of HIV Trust Fund of Nigeria, expressed heartfelt appreciation to the awardees, stating, “Their commitment and support are pivotal in our relentless pursuit to combat HIV/AIDS. We believe that together, we can make a significant impact on the prevention of mother-to-child transmission and create a healthier future for Nigeria.”
The event underscored the critical role played by both private and public sectors in curbing the spread of HIV/AIDS. Notably, HTFN’s funding Trustees, including Access Corporation, The Aliko Dangote Foundation, Shell Companies in Nigeria, and Julius Berger Nigeria PLC, were commended for their unwavering support.
Dr. Ozoemene further emphasized the significance of supportive workplace policies for breastfeeding mothers, stating,
“Family-friendly policies, such as paid maternity leave, breastfeeding breaks, and designated facilities, are essential to enable working mothers to continue breastfeeding their children, even after returning to work.”
HTFN’s commitment to transparency and accountability was highlighted as Dr. Ozoemene announced that the organization would periodically disclose its financial accounts and donations, reaffirming their dedication to prudent stewardship of resources.
Nnenna Nwobodo, the representative of Eko Electricity Distribution Company Limited, commended HTFN’s achievements and emphasized the need for increased advocacy and grassroots sensitization, stating,
“A widespread response to this public health challenge requires collective efforts, and community outreach can play a pivotal role in garnering widespread support.”
