London’s boxing fans were left disappointed as the much-anticipated rematch between Anthony Joshua and Dillian Whyte, scheduled for August 12 at the O2 Arena, was abruptly called off. The Voluntary Anti-Doping Association (VADA) reported that Whyte’s recent random anti-doping test revealed “adverse analytical findings,” leading to the cancellation.
The news came as a shock to both fighters and the boxing world. Whyte, who had been looking forward to a chance at redemption, vehemently denied any wrongdoing. In a statement on Twitter, he expressed his shock and devastation while firmly asserting his innocence.
“I can confirm without a shadow of doubt that I have not taken the reported substance, in this camp or at any point in my life. I am completely innocent and ask to be given the time to go through the process of proving this without anybody jumping to conclusions or a trial by media,” Whyte wrote.

Matchroom, the fight’s promoter, confirmed the fight’s cancellation and pledged to conduct a full investigation into the matter. The Association of Boxing Commissions and the British Boxing Board of Control were also informed of the adverse findings.
The canceled rematch would have been a significant event, pitting two heavyweight rivals against each other once more. Joshua, who had avenged an amateur loss to Whyte back in 2015, was eager to showcase his skills and continue building his reputation as one of boxing’s best.
